Liverpool star aims dig at Jurgen Klopp after shock revival under Arne Slot

Ryan Gravenberch seems to have taken a subtle swipe at Jurgen Klopp after thriving under Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot.

Klopp brought Gravenberch to Liverpool in the summer of 2023, where he made 26 league appearances in his first season following his transfer from Bayern Munich….Continue Reading

However, under Slot’s guidance, Gravenberch has featured in every league game so far, shining in the No. 6 role and even earning the Man of the Match honor in Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Wolves.

Reflecting on his performances in midfield, Gravenberch appeared to subtly criticize Klopp, expressing that he’s enjoying playing more under Slot’s management than he did under the German coach.

“That’s all exaggerated. I’m the same Gravenberch,” he explained. “I sometimes had matches [last season] where I only touched the ball after five minutes.

“Then I don’t get into my game, I don’t get into my rhythm. This feels more comfortable to me.”

Gravenberch has flourished under Slot, who had initially attempted to bring in Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad during the summer transfer window.

However, with Liverpool unable to secure Zubimendi, the Dutch midfielder seized the opportunity to step up.

His impressive displays have caught the attention of both fans and critics, including Alan Shearer, who praised the 22-year-old for his outstanding performances.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, the Newcastle legend said: “I know they wanted a midfielder [this summer] but I think [the midfield has] probably been one of their strengths in the first few games.

“In terms of Gravenberch, I think he’s been outstanding hasn’t he.”

Gravenberch, who joined Liverpool for £34 million, has started every league game this campaign as well as his team’s Champions League tie against AC Milan.

He’s expected to keep his place in the starting lineup when Liverpool resume their Champions League campaign against Bologna on Wednesday.
