Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah suffers muscle injury on Egypt duty

Mohamed Salah was forced off with an injury playing for Egypt against Eswatini on Friday, but the ‘muscle strain’ is believed not to be serious.

The Liverpool forward enjoyed a good game, scoring direct from a corner as Egypt defeated the Eswatini 4-1 in the African Cup of Nations qualifier.

But Salah’s night came to an end when he went down injured late in the match, appearing to hold his leg.

After receiving treatment on the side of the field, Salah returned to the game before deciding he could no longer continue.

‘The initial diagnosis confirmed that the injury is a muscle strain and there is no possibility of muscle rupture,’ Egypt assistant Hany Ramzy said after the match.

‘The player needs to have radiation to determine the injury and the duration of his absence.

‘It is not a big injury, we support him with all our energy and we hope he will return without being affected by an injury as soon as possible.’

Klopp has backed Salah to rediscover his goalscoring touch, but the Liverpool manager may be without the Egyptian for a short period.

Liverpool do not return to Premier League action until 20 October, and Salah will have most of the international break to recover from the injury.

Salah ended a four-game goal drought with his strike against Eswatini and the forward would be forgiven for missing some matches due to injury.

Liverpool have a nice spell of games on paper when they resume club action, with games against Huddersfield, Crvena Zvezda and Cardiff City in the month of October.
