Inter Milan have confirmed they have made a formal approach to Manchester United for the signing of Romelu Lukaku.
Officials from the Serie A club held talks with their Red Devils counterparts on Thursday over a transfer move for the 26-year-old Belgium international.
Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio met chiefs from Old Trafford – who have been affected by the news a member of staff has been hospitalised on their-pre-season tour after a suspected overdose.
And he has confirmed negotiations have begun for £75million-rated striker – with Manchester United refusing to take less than that fee.
Ausilio said: “It was an official approach between two important clubs. We’ll see what happens.
“All the players we’re following are targets we’ve agreed with Antonio Conte.
“We want to satisfy his request within certain financial parameters.”
Inter are interested in bringing the Belgian goalscorer to the San Siro on a two-year loan with a view to making the move permanent.
However, United are only willing to sell permanently and want at least £75m to allow the ex-Chelsea forward leave.
Though Ole Solskjaer wants to keep him but since Marcus Rashford will be the first choice striker, Lukaku wants to move to Inter where he will be the main man.
Romelu Lukaku is currently in Australia with his other team-mates on their pre-season tour.
He sat out training yesterday and underwent some rehab work but he will be back in the team for Saturday’s friendly game against Perth Glory.
