Manchester United expect Luke Shaw to be fit for next week’s Premier League game against Chelsea despite the defender pulling out of the England team through injury.
The 23-year-old hurt his ankle in the come-back victory over Newcastle last time out and was forced to withdraw from international action, missing games against Croatia and Spain.
But now The Sun claim that Shaw has been assessed by United’s medical team at Carrington and the problem is only minor.
Jose Mourinho is already planning for the trip to Stamford Bridge with Shaw available in what is a big boost for the Portuguese.
The left-back has been one of the outstanding players in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Red Devils, scoring and assisting this campaign and also looking solid defensively.
He has started seven of United’s eight Premier League games this season, only missing the victory over Watford because of concussion.
Shaw’s form marks a remarkable turnaround in his United career, having being frequently criticised by Mourinho who questioned his fitness and tactical understanding.
His current contract expires in the summer and United are desperate to offer him a new deal rather than risk losing him for nothing.

Recent reports have suggested Shaw is reluctant to commit his future to United while Mourinho is still in charge, having not forgotten his manager’s brutal criticism.
