Harry Maguire has etched his name in Premier League folklore with a record-breaking goal for Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
After narrowly defeating Coventry City in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final, the Red Devils found themselves trailing 1-0 against bottom club Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

The turning point came just before half-time when Maguire, who had already scored in the previous game, leveled the match for United.
This achievement is significant because it marks the 1,085th goal of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, setting a new record for the most goals in a 20-team, 38-game season.
Despite the setback, United rallied. Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty assisted by Maguire, and then added a second goal to complete the turnaround. Rasmus Hojlund sealed the victory for the home team.
Interestingly, this season has witnessed an unprecedented average of more than three goals per game in the Premier League, a historic milestone.
In the 2022/23 season, a total of 1,084 goals were scored, and other high-scoring campaigns include 2018/19, 2021/22, and 2011/12.
With 45 games still remaining, the current campaign is on track to surpass even that impressive tally, potentially reaching 1,231 goals.
Maguire’s individual achievement adds to the excitement of this goal-filled season.
