This season, United has faced significant challenges in their offensive play, often failing to score more than once per match. Their disappointing home form at Old Trafford has only intensified the need for reinforcements.
With the uncertain futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, strengthening the forward line has become a priority as the summer transfer window approaches.
Despite financial limitations, Amorim is expected to push the club’s leadership to invest in new attacking talent to address United’s goal-scoring issues and boost their frontline.
When Amorim initially joined United, there were numerous rumors about which players he might bring with him from his talented Sporting CP squad, with Viktor Gyökeres being a popular name.
However, according to a new report from the Portuguese outlet ABola, United has already agreed to sign 17-year-old winger Geovany Quenda from the Liga Portugal side for the summer.
The report states that United’s interest in Quenda predates Amorim’s arrival, and with a deal unlikely to be finalized during the winter window, they will complete the signing in the summer.
Sporting is reportedly preparing for a bid of around £50 million, with the transfer essentially confirmed.
Although Quenda is only 17, he shares a close coach-player relationship with Amorim.
English fans may recall Quenda’s impressive performance during one of Amorim’s final games for Sporting, where they triumphed over Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League in November.
Quenda made his debut for Sporting in August, scoring a “stunning” goal against FC Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup final.
When Amorim left Portugal, Quenda sent him a heartfelt message, having made 18 appearances under his guidance.
“Thank you for believing in me and letting me play for the club I love, a big hug and good luck in the future, mister,” wrote Quenda on Instagram.
