Man Utd include unexpected clause in Garnacho’s Chelsea deal
Manchester United inserted a surprising clause in the deal that would see Alejandro Garnacho join Chelsea.
The 21-year-old winger has been the subject of ongoing transfer speculation this summer, especially after new manager Ruben Amorim reportedly told him he was free to look for a new club.

This came in the wake of tensions following United’s Europa League final loss to Tottenham in May.
“Up until the final, I’ve played every round, and today to play 20 minutes… I don’t know,” Garnacho said after the final.
The Argentine winger has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, including Chelsea, Napoli, and various teams from Saudi Arabia.
However, it now seems that a move to Stamford Bridge is nearing completion.
According to a report from *The Athletic* on the evening of August 28, Chelsea have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Garnacho.
The deal is said to include a £40 million guaranteed fee, with Garnacho expected to sign a long-term contract running until 2032.
He is scheduled to undergo his medical on Friday.
Once the transfer is finalized, the 21-year-old will become Manchester United’s first player to be sold for a transfer fee this summer.
In addition to the £40 million payment, United have reportedly negotiated a 10% sell-on clause, meaning they would receive a portion of any future sale.
Garnacho departs Old Trafford after making 144 appearances for the club since his 2022 debut, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists.
Highlights of his time at United include scoring in the 2023/24 FA Cup final victory over Manchester City and being part of the squad that won the 2022/23 Carabao Cup, although he didn’t feature in the final against Newcastle.
At Chelsea, he becomes the club’s tenth signing of the summer, joining the likes of Jorrell Hato, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Kendry Paez, Mamadou Sarr, Liam Delap, Jesse Derry, and Dario Essugo.
Meanwhile, Manchester United could see more departures before the transfer window closes on September 1. Reports suggest Rasmus Højlund is nearing a loan move to Napoli, with Fabrizio Romano providing an update on Thursday.
Romano wrote: “Matter of short time and Rasmus Højlund will become a new Napoli player.”
Antony is linked with a second loan to Real Betis, while Jadon Sancho has been majorly linked with a move to AS Roma.
