Man Utd finally ‘make contact’ with shock replacement for Erik ten Hag

Reports suggest Kieran McKenna, the current Ipswich Town manager, is being considered for the managerial position at Manchester United, succeeding Erik ten Hag.

Initial discussions have reportedly begun with McKenna’s agents.

Ten Hag’s tenure at Manchester United is uncertain after a lackluster second season has seen the team drop to eighth in the Premier League standings, with only two matches remaining.

Despite the possibility of a strong finish with upcoming games against Newcastle and Brighton and an FA Cup final against Manchester City, Ten Hag’s future remains undecided.

Manchester United is reportedly exploring options to replace Ten Hag, with The Guardian naming McKenna, a former coach at the club, as a potential successor.

McKenna, who served on Manchester United’s coaching staff from 2016 to 2021, has made a notable impact at Ipswich since his appointment in December 2021, securing consecutive promotions from League One to the Premier League.

While discussions with Manchester United are still in the preliminary stages, McKenna is said to be a serious contender for the role.

Ipswich Town is eager to retain McKenna, who demonstrated his commitment to the club by declining an offer from Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

Nevertheless, the opportunity to manage Manchester United could present a compelling challenge, one that might be difficult to refuse should a formal offer be extended.

Additionally, Brighton has shown interest in McKenna, with speculation that he could be a candidate for their managerial role if Roberto De Zerbi departs, amid rumors linking De Zerbi to Bayern Munich and other Italian clubs.
