After an initial £55 million bid was rejected, United returned with an improved offer exceeding £60 million.
Despite already landing Matheus Cunha from Wolves, United remain eager to secure Mbeumo, who netted 20 league goals last season and is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.
His arrival would mark another major addition to Ruben Amorim’s frontline, which is being reshaped following a disappointing campaign that saw United finish with a negative goal difference for the second year running.
While Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to boost the team’s attacking output, Amorim is still targeting a central striker.
After missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea, United are exploring other options, including Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen.
However, further signings may depend on player sales, with no major departures confirmed yet.
In midfield, Amorim is also seeking reinforcements. With Christian Eriksen set to leave and uncertainty surrounding Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro, the club is in the market for a partner to play alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Concerns over Manuel Ugarte’s distribution have added urgency to that search.
A new goalkeeper is also on the agenda. Amorim reportedly wants someone to challenge Andre Onana, though the Cameroonian is expected to remain first choice.
With Tom Heaton signing a new deal, Altay Bayindir is likely to make way for any incoming keeper.
Finally, while not a top priority, a right wing-back could still be added—though Mbeumo’s versatility might offer cover in that role if needed.
