Manchester United have decided on a replacement for Dan Ashworth following his unexpected departure.
Ashworth was abruptly dismissed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Sunday after Manchester United’s painful 3-2 home loss to Nottingham Forest.

Ashworth spent just five months at the club after being hired from Newcastle United, but both parties have mutually agreed to part ways.
A statement read: “Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as Sporting Director of Manchester United by mutual agreement.
“We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
Ashworth is anticipated to receive plenty of offers to return to football and is rumored to be linked with a move to one of Manchester United’s main Premier League rivals.
For Manchester United, the position of sporting director has been abolished following the Ashworth experiment.
According to The Sun, the role is now a thing of the past.
Ratcliffe has decided that his INEOS right-hand man Sir Dave Brailsford, along with Omar Berrarda and technical director Jason Wilcox, will assume the responsibilities of the position.
The report suggests that Ashworth’s dismissal may lead to further staff reductions at Manchester United.
He resisted excessive cutbacks, even though Ratcliffe wanted more, with 250 employees already made redundant. Ashworth departs Old Trafford with the club struggling in 13th place in the league standings.
Ruben Amorim’s team suffered their sixth league defeat of the season against Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest.
This marks back-to-back losses for the Red Devils, who will resume their league campaign against local rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
