As Sancho sealed a season-long loan to Villa Park, United also saw striker Rasmus Hojlund head to Napoli, the reigning Serie A champions, while Brazilian winger Antony completed a permanent transfer to Real Betis in Spain.
Announcing the transfer, United wrote on their official website: “Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has signed for Aston Villa in a season-long loan deal, subject to registration. Sancho joined the club in July 2021, arriving from Borussia Dortmund.
“He had a loan spell back at the Bundesliga side in the second part of the 2023/24 season, appearing in the UEFA Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid at Wembley.”
Man United then appeared to aim a dig at Sancho by mentioning the fact that this will be the third time he has been loaned out since moving to Old Trafford.
The statement continued: “The winger spent the following campaign at Chelsea. Hence, this move represents the third loan of his career.
“Villa’s next fixture is on Saturday 13 September, when they have an away game against Everton in the Premier League. We wish Jadon the best of luck for his time with the Midlanders.”
Sancho featured in 41 matches for Chelsea during his previous loan stint, netting five goals across all competitions.
In addition to securing Sancho, Aston Villa also snapped up ex-Manchester United defender Victor Lindelöf, who departed Old Trafford this summer following the end of his contract.
Villa further strengthened their squad with the arrival of Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott. The 22-year-old midfielder has joined on a temporary deal, which includes a mandatory purchase clause next summer, contingent on his number of appearances.
The Villans are set to resume their Premier League campaign on September 13, facing off against David Moyes’ Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
