Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag to sign Youri Tielemans this summer

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in bringing Leicester’s Youri Tielemans to Old Trafford this summer.

United are yet to make any signings in the current transfer window, but Ten Hag has identified midfield as an area that needs to be improved and has drawn up a shortlist of potential targets.

Tielemans is reported to feature on that list with the club keeping tabs on his situation at the King Power Stadium, according to The Times.

The 25-year-old is about to enter the last year of his contract at Leicester, and has also been linked with north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham in recent weeks.

But, Spurs brought in Yves Bissouma from Brighton earlier this month, and appear to be focusing on improving in other positions for now.

This could open the door for the Red Devils to make their move, with the 13-time Premier League champions also closing in on another midfielder – Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong is edging closer to a move to the red side of Manchester for a fee that could rise to £70m.

Tielemans has spent the last three-and-a-half years at Leicester City, having initially joined the club on a loan deal from Monaco in January 2019.

He has played 157 games for Brendan Rodgers’ team, and scored the winning goal at Wembley to lead his team to FA Cup glory in 2021.

The midfielder has earned 52 caps for Belgium at international level, and looks likely to be a major part of Roberto Martinez’s plans at this year’s World Cup.

As well as Tielemans, United are also closing in on a £13million deal for Feyenoord left back Tyrell Malacia. They are also interested on Christian Eriksen, who is set to become a free agent after his short-term spell at Brentford in the second half of last season.

United have made a proposal to the Danish international, and are currently waiting for him to make a final decision on his future.
