“I think it’s the manager who really drew me to the project,” he explained.
“I knew him from his time with Pep Guardiola in Manchester City. He spoke to me on the phone about this project and what he was building here, and for a young player like myself it’s exciting and I can’t wait to get started.”
Sancho believes Maresca’s style suits his own play, saying: “They’re signing me for a reason and to contribute to the team, and I’m ready to do that.
“I enjoy his style of play. The wingers when they get on the ball, he loves them to go one versus one and be direct. We play a lot of one-twos with the 10s and the striker combination plays.”It’s very attractive and it’s a style that I play.”
But, Man United supporters have called out Sancho’s claim about working under Maresca as the former Man City youth star left the Etihad in 2017 while Maresca joined the set-up in 2020, meaning they wouldn’t have crossed paths at all.
Needless to say, fans online hit out at the England winger’s lie. One X user wrote: “Jadon Sancho is a true definition of shameless players.”
A second said: “I hope he knows how to work in training cause Maresca ain’t playing around.”
A third tweeted: “This pathetic lie sums up the kind of guy he is.”A fourth slammed: “What a liar,” while another added: “Just shameless.”
Sancho, who played for United in their Community Shield defeat to Man City, has yet to play in the Premier League this campaign.
But he could make his first appearance for Chelsea when they resume their season after the international break.
