Talk of Sesko joining Manchester United started as far back as summer 2023—even though he had already committed to joining Leipzig from RB Salzburg.
Manchester Evening News reports that the team managed by Ruben Amorim is making progress in their chase for the talented Slovenian striker.
On Friday, Leipzig revealed their alternate kit for the 2025/26 season, but Sesko was conspicuously absent from the promotional images.
That wasn’t the only suggestive sign to surface on Friday.
The Twitter page @AcademyScoop, known for covering Manchester United’s youth squads, shared a photo of Sesko’s representative, Elvis Basanovic, visiting the training facility at Old Trafford. Sesko’s own account gave the post a like.
A quick glance shows the picture wasn’t taken recently—evidenced by the Christmas tree in the background—but it was the caption beneath it that truly caught the attention of United fans.
It reads: “Always a pleasure to be here. Manchester United will rise again…”
Basanovic has visited Manchester United’s Old Trafford numerous times, with one of his appearances taking place in May 2024.
If United successfully secure a transfer for the 22-year-old striker, he’ll become their third signing of the summer window.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have already joined the squad from Brentford and Wolves, costing the club more than £125 million in total.
Journalist David Ornstein from The Athletic reports that RB Leipzig won’t accept any offers below their £64.8 million valuation for Sesko.
The challenge is compounded by Sesko’s contract situation, he has netted 27 Bundesliga goals since joining in 2023 and remains tied down for four more seasons.
Football finance analyst Dave Powell, speaking to Manchester Evening News, claims Manchester United can still spend heavily this summer even without European competition, thanks to revenue from share sales linked to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition.
That financial boost, combined with active player trading, is expected to keep the club clear of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Marcus Rashford has moved to Barcelona on loan with a potential purchase clause, yet United must also offload high earners like Jadon Sancho and Casemiro, and figure out the futures of sidelined wingers Antony and Alejandro Garnacho.
