With pressure mounting on manager Ruben Amorim, fans were eager to see a response.
United opened the scoring courtesy of a Josh Cullen own goal, but Burnley hit back in the 55th minute through Lyle Foster.
Bryan Mbeumo quickly restored the lead, only for Jaidon Anthony to equalize again just ten minutes later.
Despite relentless pressure from the home side, Burnley’s defense held firm until stoppage time, when Amad Diallo was fouled in the box. Bruno Fernandes converted the resulting penalty to secure a vital 3-2 win.
However, the victory didn’t shield Amorim or his players from criticism.
Many fans voiced concerns about goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, blaming him for poor positioning on Burnley’s second goal and warning that his performances could jeopardize Amorim’s future at the club.
One fan said: “Another baffling Bayindir mess. This will be remembered as Amorim’s fault though.”
Another tweeted: “Bayindir should’ve done better. If Manchester United don’t sign a good goalkeeper, Amorim is doomed.”
A third fan added: “Bayindir needs to be released.”
Someone else wrote: “Bayindir needs a shot stopping and cross claiming coach.”
A fifth commented: “Bayindir is still trying to save a shot that’s already well into the goal.”
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former Tottenham midfielder Michael Brown said: “It’s a possible manager saving penalty. It’s a real pressure moment to step up after you’ve missed. Martin Dubravka goes but the quality is too good for him.”
Meanwhile, ex-Liverpool player Stephen Warnock added: “It’s a get out of jail card for United. They have been poor in the second half and Burnley have been the better side and looked very comfortable.
“That is a moment that could change United’s season and give them that bit of momentum.”
