The previous weekend, Ruben Amorim’s side responded to their 1-0 loss to Everton with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Meanwhile, West Ham’s struggles persisted as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Liverpool at the London Stadium.
In front of a full house at Old Trafford, both sides created few opportunities during a tense and cautious opening half.
After the break, United increased the pressure and found the breakthrough in the 58th minute when Diogo Dalot scored from inside the box.
However, West Ham silenced the home crowd in the 84th minute as Soungoutou Magassa equalised.
The visitors held firm to claim a crucial point, leaving United fans frustrated once more.
Online, many supporters criticised Amorim’s choice to introduce Manuel Ugarte, who replaced Matheus Cunha in the 77th minute.
One fan said: “Every time Ugarte comes on we concede…..”
Another tweeted: “Ugarte comes on and ruins us.”
A third fan added: “It feels as though any time Ugarte is brought on late in to a game, we concede.”
Someone else wrote: “The fact Ugarte was subbed on ahead of Mainoo again in a game like this should be enough to sack him.”
A fifth commented: “Ugarte on, 10mins and we concede. Nothing new here.”
Another fan said: “Ugarte comes on the pitch and we lose any semblance of control. When will he learn?”
Speaking on Sky Sports, former United defender Gary Neville also raised concerns about Amorim’s late-game decisions.
He said: “When you’re 1-0 up and you let a game drift you’re never really safe. That’s what has happened. Amorim’s substitutions were intended to see this game out…”
United return to Premier League duty next week with a trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Monday night.
