Few players emerged with any credit from the game, as many underperformed. But two in particular drew sharp criticism from supporters, who believe they should never wear the shirt again.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, both set to become free agents this summer, started the match at St James’ Park — and fans are saying it should be their last appearance for the club.
One fan on X commented: “Can we stop playing Lindelof and Eriksen, they’re leaving on a free. Play youth instead.”
A second added: “You can’t be surprised though can you? You can’t expect to be a physically dominant side with Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof starting for you. Both are out of contract this summer.”
A third said: “Can’t expect to win a prem game with Eriksen and Lindelof in the team.”
Analysing one of Barnes’ strike, another user wrote: “Harvey Barnes easily glides past Lindelof and Eriksen – 2 players who should be nowhere near the #MUFC starting line-up and will be leaving in the summer. No muscle or pace. Just too easy.”
A final person stated: “Another performance that’s solely on Amorim’s selections. Newcastle away and he’s starting the likes of Lindelof and Eriksen.”
