Man Utd & Bruno Fernandes equal Premier League records after Southampton game

Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes equalled Premier League records after they drew 1-1 with Southampton.

Mason Greenwood’s goal cancelled out Che Adams’ first-half goal at St Mary’s and earned the Red devils a point.

The draw sees United equal Arsenal’s record for the most successive unbeaten away games in the Premier League with 27.

After the 1-1 draw, Fernandes has also equalled Man City star Gabriel Jesus’ record for the most away games unbeaten at the start of a Premier League career with 26.

The Red devils have taken four points from their first two Premier League games and are currently fourth in the table.

Greenwood said: ‘We’ve done well [to equal the record]. ‘It’s hard coming away from home to play at these away grounds and with the fans back today it makes a difference but hopefully we can go onto the next game and win.’

Solskjaer’s side thrashed Leeds 5-1 last week and almost took an early lead over Southampton when Harry Maguire’s shot hit the top of the bar and Martial’s follow-up header was cleared off the line.

Paul Pogba was superb during the Leeds victory, providing four assists, and should have put United ahead against Southampton but could only head over from close-range.

Southampton also threatened, with Adam Armstrong curling an effort wide in the first half. The hosts went ahead minutes later after Che Adams’ goal deflected off Fred and went past David de Gea.

Southampton, boosted by the return of supporters to St Mary’s, led 1-0 at the break, but Greenwood scored his second goal of the campaign in the second half to equalise.

Despite seeing their lead disappear, the Saints rallied and should have reclaimed the advantage when Armstrong raced through on goal, but the former Blackburn Rovers star was denied by De Gea.
