Man Utd given chance to sign Gravenberch with Bayern ‘keen on swap deal’

Gravenberch

Manchester United’s Scott McTominay could be used in a shock player-exchange deal for Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, according to reports.

McTominay is attracting interest from the Bundesliga champions, which could help United land one of their main midfield targets.

The Scotland international has seen his chances of regular football at the club diminish this summer. And Mason Mount’s arrival gives Erik ten Hag an extra option in midfield.

McTominay has now been linked with a transfer. A move to West Ham fell through earlier in the window, but there could be movement this week ahead of the deadline.

It is claimed that Bayern are interested in a move for the 26-year-old. It is a deal that could please the Red Devils as they harbour an interest in Bayern’s midfielder Gravenberch.

According to Sky in Germany, the Premier League club could ask for Gravenberch in return for McTominay this week. United’s best chances of signing the former Ajax star would be in an initial temporary transfer.

An additional report from German newspaper BILD adds that McTominay’s move to Bayern Munich could also be a loan.

The United star played just five minutes of the club’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday despite Mount’s absence due to injury.

Ten Hag has been desperate to improve his midfield this summer. McTominay and Fred have both been linked with exits to raise funds for new signings, although Mount has been the only midfield arrival this summer.

United and Liverpool have been linked with Gravenberch, who chose to snub that interest in favour of a move to Bayern last summer.

But, his time with the Bavarians has not gone to plan. He made just three starts during his debut season and has played just nine top-flight minutes this campaign, having been left on the bench during Bayern’s win over Werder Bremen.

Gravenberch was also unused in Bayern’s 3-0 Super Cup defeat by RB Leipzig at the start of the month. A move away could help the youngster reignite his career.

United’s midfield has often been been criticised this season, with Casemiro and Mount coming under scrutiny. Gravenberch would definitely add quality to one of the weaker areas of Ten Hag’s team.
