Amorim is facing intense pressure at Old Trafford following United’s underwhelming start to the campaign.
The Red Devils have picked up only two wins from their opening seven matches, with Saturday’s loss to Brentford dropping them to 14th in the Premier League standings. ..Continue Reading
Amorim has yet to secure back-to-back league victories since succeeding Erik ten Hag last November, collecting just 33 points from 34 fixtures.
A large portion of Manchester United supporters believe Amorim should be dismissed, with former England midfielder Joe Cole also expressing that view after the 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
Reports claim United have begun exploring the possibility of parting ways with Amorim by compiling a list of potential successors to the former Sporting boss.
Following the Brentford result, Sir Gareth Southgate, Oliver Glasner, and Andoni Iraola have all been linked with the managerial role at Old Trafford.
However, BBC Sport report that the Manchester United board remain ‘supportive’ of Amorim and feel he should be given the full season to prove he can turn things around.
Club officials have also denied speculation that a list of replacements has already been finalized, though their patience may be tested if performances fail to improve.
Speaking after the Brentford defeat, Amorim said: ‘I am never concerned about my job – I am not that kind of guy. It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here.’
Despite public backing, speculation continues to swirl around Amorim’s future, with the 40-year-old Portuguese coach appearing to be in a precarious position.
The Theatre of Dreams remains an appealing destination for elite managers, and Xavi is said to be eager to step in.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Xavi has been ‘studying’ the Premier League and would ‘immediately’ take the Manchester United job if it was offered.
The report also notes that the absence of European competition would not discourage Xavi—a former Barcelona manager and one of the most iconic players of his era—from accepting the role.
Xavi spent nearly 20 years at Barcelona, making over 700 appearances and winning eight La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
The 45-year-old guided Barcelona to a La Liga triumph during his three-year tenure before stepping down last year.
Amorim will be hoping to guide Manchester United to a crucial win next week when newly-promoted Sunderland arrive at Old Trafford.
