Man Utd send message to Chelsea over Jadon Sancho transfer

Manchester United have signaled their openness to selling Jadon Sancho before the transfer window closes, but they are determined to secure a reasonable price for the winger.

Sancho’s disappointing tenure at Old Trafford might come to a close before the summer transfer deadline at 11 p.m. on Friday.

After his £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, high expectations surrounded the winger, but he has struggled to make a significant impact for the Premier League club.

During his four standout seasons at Dortmund, Sancho emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s brightest prospects and became a regular for the England national team.

His move to Old Trafford was anticipated to be a game-changer, with hopes that he would help Manchester United achieve success.

However, his first two seasons at United were challenging, as he managed just 12 goals in 79 appearances.

He then returned to Dortmund on loan for the second half of the 2023-24 season, where he regained form and played a key role in helping the team reach the Champions League final.

Unfortunately, his return to Manchester has been marked by continued struggles.

Manager Erik ten Hag brought Sancho back into the squad during pre-season after a previous falling out, but the winger was left out of Manchester United’s first two games of the current season.

Ten Hag stated that Sancho was not “100% fit” for the opener against Fulham, but reports suggest Sancho disagreed with this assessment and requested to leave after being excluded from the squad.

Sancho was then unexpectedly brought to Brighton’s Amex Stadium on Saturday but was not included in the matchday squad, with Ten Hag offering only a vague explanation.

It is believed that both Sancho and the club are interested in finding a resolution before the transfer window closes, with Chelsea reportedly showing genuine interest in the winger despite their already busy summer transfer activity.

There are even rumors of a potential swap deal between Manchester United and Chelsea, where Sancho could move to Stamford Bridge and Raheem Sterling, who has been sidelined by new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, could head to Old Trafford.

Although Manchester United is eager to finalize Sancho’s departure before the window closes, they remain firm on getting a fair fee for him and are cautious of being lowballed, as reported by BBC Sport.

Sancho is likely to remain the subject of transfer speculation until the final day, with Serie A club Juventus also interested in a deal if favorable terms can be reached.

Explaining why Sancho failed to make Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s defeat against Brighton, Ten Hag said: ‘He’s here [at the stadium], but I had a choice to make.

‘We had some issues, we need a full squad. He’s one of them. He has to compete in his position.

‘Game-by-game we will have a look. We need two players in every position because it is a long season.’

Sancho has scored 12 goals in 83 games for United and his poor spell in Manchester should spark alarm bells at Chelsea, according to Paul Merson.

‘There’s talk of Chelsea wanting to sign Jadon Sancho,’ the ex-Arsenal and England winger told Sportskeeda.‘But honestly, I don’t see that happening. Chelsea don’t need another winger, what they need is a goalkeeper and a centre-forward.’
