Despite their struggles, Amorim—who took over from Erik ten Hag last November—still has the chance to salvage the season by leading his team to Europa League glory, which would secure Champions League qualification.
United advanced to the final after a dominant 7-1 aggregate victory over Athletic Bilbao and will now face Premier League rivals Tottenham in the showdown.
The Portuguese manager is under increasing pressure to deliver silverware, especially as a surprising candidate has emerged as a potential replacement.
However, according to The Guardian, United intends to keep Amorim in charge next season, even if they fall short in the Europa League final.
While their European run has provided a glimmer of hope in an otherwise disappointing campaign, Amorim has struggled to find his footing at Old Trafford.
Their latest setback came on Sunday when West Ham handed them a painful 2-0 defeat.
Speaking after the match, Amorim did not hold back, acknowledging that he bears responsibility for his team’s poor form.
“How a manager of Manchester United is supposed to feel in that position: embarrassed and it’s hard to accept,” he said.
“Everybody has to think seriously about a lot of things here. We need to be really strong in the summer and be brave.
“We are losing the feeling of we are a massive club and it’s the end of the world to lose a game at home. I think that is the biggest concern in our club.”
Asked if he can be the man to turn United’s fortunes around, he replied: “It’s not the players fault. It’s my fault, I’m responsible. If we cannot change that really fast we should give our place to different persons.”
