Man Utd’s stance on sacking Solskjaer after Leicester City defeat

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under huge pressure after Saturday’s disappointing 4-2 defeat against Leicester City.

The Norwegian coach signed a contract extension in the summer and was backed in the transfer market with the signings of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red devils made a goal-laden start to the new season, thrashing Leeds and Newcastle at Old Trafford, but their form has deteriorated in recent weeks, and they have won just two of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Despite a poor run of results, The Athletic claim that Solskjaer maintains the 100% backing of senior figures at the the theatre of dreams and currently is in no danger of being sacked.

However, the fixture list looks unfavourable with United set to face domestic rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as Serie A club Atalanta twice, over the course of the next month.

After the defeat at the King Power, Solskjaer said: ‘When you look at the game after, the four goals we conceded were poor. The way we played we don’t deserve to continue that (away unbeaten) run.

‘I pick the team, Harry Maguire showed no reaction and I hold my hand up if that does not work out. If we concede four, I probably made a bad decision.

‘Lately we have not been in great form, lost too many points and that is something we have to look at. We might have to change, do we need more legs in there? What do we need?

‘I have got many good players. Fred, Edinson Cavani, you miss them. I am not making excuses for the team I put out there, they are top footballers and we have not produced.

‘It says everything our best player was David but we still conceded four goals.’
