Despite this, United appear to be planning a significant move for a player who recently transferred to another club.
Dutch international Xavi Simons, who impressed during his season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the 2023/24 campaign, completed a permanent move to Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on Thursday.
The 21-year-old tallied eight goals and eleven assists during his loan spell with Leipzig, leading to his return on a temporary loan at the start of the season. His transfer has now been made permanent for a reported fee of €81 million (£67.8m).
However, this has reportedly not dissuaded several Premier League clubs, who are expected to attempt to sign the talented youngster when the summer transfer window opens in June.
Confirming the news, on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano revealed: “Xavi Simons is a Red Bull Leipzig player, 100 percent, forget about PSG.
“But the contract is until June 2027, short contract, two-and-a-half years. What does it mean? In the summer, save this video, remember the name Xavi Simons, will be one to watch.
“Premier League and LaLiga clubs ready to attack, especially Premier League because many clubs in England are keeping a close eye on the situation of Xavi Simons. Top, top clubs.”
Romano expressed his reluctance to disclose the names of the clubs interested in the Dutch player and mentioned that he would reveal more details after the January transfer window closes.
In contrast, Christian Falk did not share Romano’s hesitation and announced on X that United is one of the clubs keeping an eye on Simons’ situation.
If the Red Devils intend to pursue the midfielder, they will likely need to meet Leipzig’s valuation of €70m to €80m to secure his transfer two years ahead of schedule.
However, United are not alone in their pursuit of Simons, as Falk also confirmed that both Liverpool and Manchester City are interested in signing him.
