Alejandro Garnacho is reportedly open to leaving United for a dramatic return to his boyhood club, Atletico Madrid.
Garnacho is reportedly unhappy with his situation under Ruben Amorim, raising doubts about his fit in the 3-4-3 tactical setup. Notably, Amorim left the 20-year-old out of the matchday squad for United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City.
Garnacho, praised by Tom Lockyer as a “frightening” talent, is highly regarded by both Amorim and the Manchester United hierarchy.
However, they will not obstruct his departure if he wishes to leave, despite Garnacho signing a contract extension until 2028 in April 2023.
“Erik ten Hag and also his coaching staff have helped me improving in every way. I am relishing the future and can’t wait to create more special memories with this group, with our amazing supporters”.
Selling the Madrid-born forward would significantly benefit the English giants in terms of PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules), as he is a homegrown player, and his sale would count as pure profit.
Atletico Madrid continues to show keen interest in signing Garnacho, closely monitoring his situation.
In December, it was reported that Atletico Madrid were interested in securing Marcus Rashford on loan and held the England international in high regard.
However, the player the Spanish giants truly wish to sign is Garnacho, should the opportunity arise.
Last March, Sir Jim Ratcliffe expressed a firm stance on Garnacho’s future, stating he had no intention of selling him.
Ratcliffe emphasized that Manchester United’s team should be built around the FA Cup winner, who has consistently impressed in training.
Kobbie Mainoo praised Garnacho as an “unpredictable” winger, often amazed by his skills and tricks.
Amad Diallo also highlighted Garnacho as the most skillful player at Manchester United, reinforcing his high regard among teammates at Carrington.
However, it appears United’s position on Garnacho has dramatically shifted.
