‘Miserable’ Man Utd players fear they won’t win again this season under Erik ten Hag

There’s a growing concern among Manchester United’s squad that they may not secure another victory this season, as the team’s spirit has taken a hit after their 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The team’s recent performance at Selhurst Park on Monday night was a significant setback, adding to the mounting pressure on their manager, Erik ten Hag.

Currently positioned eighth in the Premier League standings, Manchester United has fallen short of the top four, now 13 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place.

This is in stark contrast to the initial confidence that they could be title contenders, especially after acquiring players like Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and Mason Mount.

Despite reaching the FA Cup final, their journey has been marred by numerous losses, including eight at their home ground, and an early exit from the Champions League during the group phase.

Their path to the FA Cup final was far from smooth, as they narrowly defeated Coventry, a Championship team, in a penalty shootout, after initially giving up a 3-0 advantage.

And after their recent humbling by Crystal Palace, Man United players are reported to be ‘broken’ and miserable’, according to the Mirror.

The sentiment within the Manchester United camp is reportedly quite bleak, with doubts circulating among the players about securing any more wins for the remainder of the season.

The team’s confidence has been notably shaken, and there’s a belief among many that manager Erik ten Hag might face dismissal after this season’s challenging performance.

Manchester United’s current record stands at 16 victories, six draws, and 13 losses, marking their highest number of defeats in a Premier League season to date. They are also on the verge of recording their lowest points tally in a season, with the previous low being 58 points; they currently have 54.

With only three games left in the league, the team faces a critical home game against Arsenal, who are vying for their first league title since 2004, followed by a match against the high-flying Newcastle.

Their final league match will be an away game at Brighton, leading up to the FA Cup final against arch-rivals Manchester City on May 25 at Wembley.

Speculation is rife that ten Hag’s tenure may end after this season, with Thomas Tuchel, the current Bayern Munich manager, being touted as his potential successor.

Tuchel has hinted at his interest in a Premier League comeback after confirming his departure from Bayern at the season’s end.

‘This is a tricky road where you lead me. I’d rather not answer,’ Tuchel told TNT Sports before the game when asked about a possible return to the Premier League.

‘But it is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England, and I loved it in the Premier League for sure. It was a very, very special time in England, and I remember it very well.’

Man United on Wednesday night denied making any formal contact with Tuchel despite reports in Germany of informal talks taking place.
