Garnacho, 21, had a falling out with United manager Ruben Amorim after being named on the bench for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for United.
Following the match, he voiced his disappointment and slammed the team’s “s*** season”, prompting Amorim to advise him to seek a move elsewhere.
Although he didn’t feature in Chelsea’s match against United on Saturday, he was subjected to hostile chants from fans while warming up and again as he exited the field.
Despite clashing with some teammates during his time at United—including an incident where he appeared to snub a handshake from Lenny Yoro—several senior players privately sympathised with the way he was treated.
A source shared: “Garna is a very talented boy but there is no denying he could be a pain in the a*** while he was at United.
“A few of the more experienced players tried to talk to him and sometimes he listened, sometimes he didn’t.
“That said, a lot of the players felt sorry for him for the reception he got at Old Trafford. It wasn’t a surprise, but they just think he’s a young kid who’s been badly advised by the people around him.
“Plenty of players have left United in worse situations but he got an awful lot of stick.”
Garnacho will be hoping to settle in and make strides at Chelsea following his appearance in the Carabao Cup against Lincoln.
Although his performance midweek wasn’t particularly standout, the upcoming fixture against Brighton could be an ideal moment for him to make an impact.
He’s among those who might benefit from Cole Palmer’s absence, as manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed the England international will be sidelined for three weeks.
During his final season at United, Garnacho featured in 58 matches, netting 11 goals and contributing 10 assists.
Across his entire spell with the Red Devils, he recorded 48 goal involvements over 144 games.
