Man Utd players want shock manager to take charge if Ten Hag gets sacked

Manchester United’s players reportedly have a preferred candidate for the role of their new manager, according to recent reports.

Following a string of poor performances, including a humiliating 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, it’s said that some players are losing faith in current manager Erik ten Hag…Continue Reading

Despite opening the season with a win over Fulham, United has now gone three games without a victory, dropping to a disappointing 13th place. This comes despite significant summer spending.

New signings Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt have shown potential. However, Zirkzee isn’t the type of goal-scorer the fans have been longing for.

Meanwhile, De Ligt’s man-of-the-match performance in the 3-0 win over Southampton, where he also scored, drew praise, but concerns remain about his fitness and his ability to keep up with the pace of the Premier League.

The Daily Star reports that the United board is planning to review the situation during the upcoming autumn international break.

Despite Ten Hag’s FA Cup triumph over Manchester City in May, rumors about his future circulated throughout the summer, with the club reportedly reaching out to potential replacements.

Ten Hag signed a contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2026 – though that could change if results don’t improve.

If Ten Hag departs, it’s believed that United’s players favor promoting from within, with club legend and current assistant manager Ruud Van Nistelrooy as their top choice. Van Nistelrooy, who scored 150 goals in 219 games under Sir Alex Ferguson, is a popular figure at Old Trafford.

Since retiring in 2012 after a spell with Malaga, Van Nistelrooy has pursued a coaching career, taking over Jong PSV in 2021 before leading PSV’s first team a year later.

During his time with PSV, he won the KNVB Cup in 2022-23 and regularly qualified for European competitions.

Other potential candidates linked with the role include Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi and former England manager Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after a 2-1 loss to Spain in the Euro final this summer.
