Manchester United are reportedly close to the signing of Alvaro Fernandez Carreras from Real Madrid after agreeing terms with the 17-year-old left-back, according to reports.
The player’s contract with Real Madrid expired just last month and the teenager has been weighing up his options. Though Real wanted to keep him, but Spanish outlet AS report United have won the race to sign the youngster.
Alvaro Fernandez will then travel to Manchester United to link up with the youth squad, but has been assured he will get the chance to train with the senior team.
United already boast the likes of Brandon Williams and Luke Shaw at left-back, but Alvaro Fernandez will be welcomed into the senior team if injury hits either player.
Alvaro Fernandez will reportedly sign a four-year contract and is ready to prove his worth to the club.
The Spanish star has been playing with Madrid’s youth teams and United will be happy to have snapped him up on a free transfer.
Solskjaer has been promoting youngsters to the senior team so far, with Mason Greenwood, Williams, James Garner and Fosu-Mensah all joining the squad this campaign.

And the United manager has vowed to continue giving opportunities to the club’s youth stars and said there will be more new faces next campaign.
‘We just have to focus,’ Solskjaer said of his plans for the future. ‘I don’t think one second if any other team is worried about us, we have to worry about ourselves.
‘If we keep on improving and building an environment in the training ground and keep building on the culture, add one or two youngsters, maybe add players who can challenge those who we have got here.
‘Of course it’s exciting, but we can’t think that far. You don’t really have the time or focus.‘You can’t think three months ahead now with players who are in and around the first-team.
‘Of course, there are youngsters who you know are going to go out on loan, that need exposure, game-time, but those who are in and around the first-team now, they only have one focus, and that’s Southampton, then it’s onto the next one. We need to finish the season strong.’
