Man Utd ready to sell key star after Erik ten Hag spat

Manchester United is reportedly open to offers for Marcus Rashford this summer and might expedite his departure by lowering their asking price.

Rashford has been a key player at Old Trafford since his debut in 2016, making his 400th appearance for the club late last season.

The England international joined United at the age of seven and is highly regarded by fans, despite inconsistent performances over the past three seasons.

After a tough 2021-22 season with just five goals, Rashford rebounded with a career-best 30 goals in all competitions in 2022-23.

Hopes were high for Rashford to continue his good form last season, but he managed only eight goals in 43 appearances across all competitions.

With his career seemingly stalling and being omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad, coupled with a few disagreements with manager Erik ten Hag, there is speculation that Rashford may have played his last game for United.

According to The Sun, Manchester United values Rashford at around £80 million but might accept £60 million to ensure they sell him this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain has shown long-standing interest in Rashford and is likely to sign a new forward this summer after Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid.

Rashford, who was excluded from Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the Euros after a challenging season, has also been linked with other Premier League clubs.

Last month, United manager Ten Hag acknowledged that he understood why Rashford was left out of England’s squad for the Euros.

‘Grealish and Rashford out? They were both lacking this season, it’s clear,’ he told NOS Studio Voetbal before England’s first match against Serbia. ‘And when you are lacking, you risk not getting picked for your country.’

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, meanwhile, said towards the end of last season that now might be the right time for Rashford to end his long association with the Red Devils.

‘We all know Marcus has the ability to play at the top level,’ he said. ‘I just wonder if it’s time for Marcus to go and play elsewhere.

‘I don’t know. He has to ask himself that question. I want him to stay and break records at this club.

‘But he needs to get his head right, get his head down, work hard and get back to the player we know he can be.’

United were expected to part ways with Ten Hag after a disappointing season in which the club finished just eighth in the Premier League.

But the Dutchman saved his job by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final and picking up his second piece of silverware since arriving at the club.
