United’s demand for a pay cut in his contract ahead of his loan move to Aston Villa in the final days of the transfer window, according to The Athletic.

Rashford is set to play under Unai Emery until the end of the season, with Villa expected to cover 75% of his £325,000-per-week wage, potentially rising to 90% based on performances.

The Midlands club seems confident in Rashford’s ability to turn his season around, given their willingness to shoulder this significant financial responsibility.

New manager Ruben Amorim had effectively placed Rashford in indefinite exile in December, after being dissatisfied with his conduct off the pitch.

Shortly thereafter, the England international expressed his desire to leave Old Trafford, and according to The Athletic, the Red Devils suggested he “sacrifice” some of his high wage demands to facilitate an exit.

However, Rashford insisted on having his contract honored. Such a high salary deterred many potential suitors, including Barcelona, but Aston Villa managed to secure a late loan deal with a £40 million option to buy clause towards the end of the window.

Rashford has not played a single minute of professional football since mid-December, and has scored seven goals and provided three assists across all competitions this season.

He joins Villa alongside Marco Asensio, Donyell Malen, Axel Disasi, and Andres Garcia as new signings for Emery after an active transfer window for the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s top management will be relieved to have offloaded a hefty salary for the remainder of the season.

Fans are still concerned about the club allowing both Rashford and Antony to leave without signing replacements, but according to GOAL, it is believed that the Red Devils were not satisfied with the available options in the market.
