Man Utd respond to PSG demand after agreeing Ugarte deal

Manchester United have informed Paris Saint-Germain that they are unwilling to pay their €70 million (£58.9m) asking price for Manuel Ugarte, according to reports from France.

This month, United have swiftly completed two new signings, following last week’s €42.5m (£36.5m) acquisition of Joshua Zirkzee with a £52m deal for Lille centre-back Leny Yoro on Thursday.

Now, United are concentrating on enhancing Erik ten Hag’s midfield options, prioritizing the signing of Ugarte.

It is understood that United have reached personal terms with the Uruguay international, who is eager to move to Old Trafford despite the absence of Champions League football.

However, L’Equipe reports that United and PSG are still far from reaching an agreement on the fee for the 23-year-old.

PSG are reportedly demanding a €70m (£58.9m) fee for Ugarte, but United cannot match that price without first offloading players.

United’s management is now considering offering PSG a loan deal with an option to purchase Ugarte at the end of the season.

PSG acquired Ugarte from the Portuguese team Sporting last year for €60 million (£51.1m) and are keen to recover the amount they spent.

Ugarte started 27 games in all competitions for PSG last season but was benched by Luis Enrique for both legs of their Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.

In a May interview with Prime Video, when asked if he wanted to stay at PSG, Ugarte said: ‘I hope so, I’d love to stay here. We will see what’s going to happen.’

Ugarte is currently on vacation after reaching the semi-finals of the Copa America with Uruguay this month.
