Garnacho is one of several players United are looking to offload as manager Ruben Amorim reshapes his squad ahead of the new season. ..Continue Reading
The club has already parted ways with Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans, and Garnacho joins Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony on the list of potential departures.
Once considered a rising star at Old Trafford, the 20-year-old Argentine now appears set to leave following a mixed campaign and reported tensions with Amorim.
His inconsistent form and training performances led to his exclusion—alongside Rashford—from the squad for December’s Manchester derby.
Amorim is said to have informed Garnacho in front of the team that he was free to find a new club, a message that followed earlier transfer discussions with multiple suitors in January.
Chelsea and Napoli have maintained interest, and both are expected to make fresh approaches this summer.
While United initially valued Garnacho at £60 million, they now recognize that a £40 million fee is more attainable, especially with the player eager to move on and the club keen to sell.
Garnacho stirred controversy recently by posting a photo of himself in an Aston Villa shirt while vacationing in Ibiza, a move that reportedly accelerated United’s efforts to finalize his exit.
His relationship with Amorim had already soured after he and his brother publicly criticized the manager’s tactics following the Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
As a homegrown talent, any proceeds from Garnacho’s sale would count as pure profit under financial regulations. The same applies to Rashford, who is also expected to leave.
Though he dreams of joining Barcelona, their pursuit of Nico Williams complicates that possibility. A return to Aston Villa remains on the table, but would require a wage reduction.
Meanwhile, United are struggling to find buyers for Sancho and Antony due to their high salaries. Real Betis are interested in bringing Antony back after a strong loan spell, while Juventus and Napoli have shown interest in Sancho.
Chelsea, who previously had Sancho on loan, opted to pay a £5 million fee to terminate the deal early and send him back to Manchester.
