Among the most notable signings were Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike, who all completed high-profile moves to Liverpool.
The drawn-out negotiations surrounding Viktor Gyokeres ended with Arsenal securing the Swedish forward from Sporting Lisbon in a deal valued at £64 million.
Manchester United invested £236 million to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad following a disappointing 15th-place finish last season, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo, and Senne Lammens.
Benjamin Sesko was United’s priciest acquisition, joining from RB Leipzig for £73.6million including add-ons.
The Slovenian striker has recently impressed, scoring in back-to-back Premier League matches against Brentford and Sunderland, though several agents surveyed by The Athletic remain unconvinced.
Sesko was actually voted the worst signing of the summer, receiving six votes from the panel.
One agent remarked: “Way too much money and much too soon,” while another said: “A lot of money for not much of a pedigree.” A third noted: “They were pressurised into making that signing.”
James Trafford’s switch from Burnley to Manchester City was ranked second-worst with three votes, while deals involving Yoane Wissa, Jadon Sancho, and Facundo Buonanotte each received one.
Gianluigi Donnarumma’s transfer to Manchester City was voted the best deal, with Jack Grealish’s loan to Everton coming in second with four votes.
Reacting on The United Stand’s YouTube channel, Goldbridge strongly disagreed with the criticism aimed at Sesko.
“He’s literally not started games in the Premier League and then he’s scored two goals in two games. But he is the worst deal of the summer? Tell me Manchester United don’t boil people’s p*** without telling me,” he said.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s absolutely incredible. On what planet is Benjamin Sesko even near one of the worst signings of the summer? The hate is real. This is making your mind up about something before you’ve had it.”
