The Red Devils have already faced two Premier League sides in their summer fixtures—playing out a goalless draw against Leeds United and edging past West Ham 2-1 at New York’s MetLife Stadium. ..Continue Reading
Ruben Amorim’s squad is also scheduled to clash with Bournemouth and Everton in the U.S., before concluding their pre-season with a final match against Fiorentina.
While new faces like Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon, and Bryan Mbeumo have joined the ranks, speculation is growing around a possible departure from Old Trafford.
Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail reveals that midfielder Toby Collyer is preparing to meet with Amorim and football director Jason Wilcox to discuss his current role.
Collyer, who arrived from Brighton in 2022, featured in 13 matches last season during a breakout year.
Though he’s usually positioned as a defensive midfielder, he was tested as a No.10 in the opening friendly against Leeds, partnering with Cunha, before returning to his usual spot off the bench in the West Ham game.
With fewer fixtures on the calendar and no European competitions this season, the 21-year-old has acknowledged he’ll be sitting down with club leadership to explore the best path forward for his growth—including the possibility of a loan move.
“My feeling at this moment is I want to stay,” Collyer stated.
“First and foremost, I want to be here and play as many games for Man United as possible.
“I’ll sit down with the manager and higher-ups and see what’s the best solution; the best way for me to develop, whether it’s stay here or go on loan.
“The end goal for me is to play as many minutes as possible here, hopefully starting every week. So yeah, I’ll sit down with them and see what’s the best solution for that. I’ll just see how the next few weeks go and then we’ll go over those conversations.”
United are back in action on Thursday at Soldier Fold in Chicago but it will come too soon for Mbeumo to make his debut for the club as he is lacking match fitness.
“Bryan is starting slowly,” Amorim explained.
“He is not going to play in the next one. We hope to have Bryan in the last game [in the United States]. He’s training now, so we’ll see.”
