Raphael Varane thinks he has been compelled to leave the club as the board chose not to activate a 12-month extension clause in his contract.
His contract concludes at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of England.

Despite having the option to activate a 12-month extension clause in his contract, which would have extended his current deal until 2025, United opted against it.
Instead, they wish for Varane to extend his contract on reduced terms if he intends to stay.
The defender, earning approximately £300,000-a-week at Old Trafford, has been absent for seven matches this season due to various injury issues.
United assert their desire for Varane to remain, yet according to the Manchester Evening News, the Frenchman perceives himself as being nudged out of the club.
Varane has not made a final decision on his future and will contemplate a new contract if the terms meet his satisfaction.
The defender is reported to be content at Old Trafford and has established a settled life in the north-west with his family.
However, United must trim their wage bill to accommodate new signings this summer.
Last summer, the club had to secure loan deals for Sergio Reguillon and Sofyan Amrabat due to their precarious proximity to violating Financial Fair Play rules.
