Fernandes is reportedly conflicted about his decision but has not ruled out ending his long tenure at Old Trafford.

While United would prefer to keep him, the financial aspect of the deal makes it difficult to dismiss, especially with the midfielder approaching his 31st birthday.

Reports suggest that United’s openness to negotiations could spark interest from other top European clubs, potentially leading to a bidding war.

Fernandes himself has addressed speculation about his future on multiple occasions in recent weeks.

After his own sub-par display in the costly Europa League final defeat against Tottenham the former Sporting Lisbon star said: ‘If the club thinks it’s time to part ways because they want to do some cash-in, football sometimes is like this.’

Just a few days later, however, the former Sporting Lisbon player softened his stance in the wake of win over Aston Villa on the final day of a wretched Premier League season.

He said: ‘I am just a very lucky guy who is living his dream in one of the best clubs in the world, in the best league in the world. What more can I ask?

‘I just have to give it my all, for my team-mates, for myself, for my fans and for everyone who has been through every moment with me. That’s all.’

For his part, Man United’s beleaguered manager Ruben Amorim has remained steadfast in his determination to keep his captain.

‘He is really important for us and what we want to build for the team,’ Amorim said on Tuesday before United’s first post-season friendly against ASEAN All Stars in Kuala Lumpur.

While the Red Devils and Fernandes contemplate their next moves, Christian Eriksen, has confirmed he is leaving as a free agent.

The midfielder penned an emotional farewell message on Friday which read: ‘A huge thank you to all the fans who supported me through the last three ears as a Manchester United player.

‘Thank you to all the kind and hardworking people at the club who has made me and my family feel so welcomed since day one. And a big thank you to my teamamtes, it’s been a pleasure sharing the changing room and pitch together.

‘It’s been an amazing time and I’ve made some incredible memories that I will keep forever.’
