Altay Bayindir’s agent has confirmed they have received ‘many offers’ for the goalkeeper to leave United, but he wishes to stay.
Bayindir, 26, joined from Turkish giants Fenerbahce last summer but has only made four appearances in the 18 months since.
The Turkey international’s last and most significant game was the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham last month.
Unfortunately, Bayindir had a night to forget, conceding four goals, including one directly from a corner.
His performance seems to have solidified manager Ruben Amorim’s plan to sign a new goalkeeper in 2025, one who can challenge current No.1 Andre Onana, according to the MEN.
In the wake of the report, Bayindir’s agent, Sefa Seyrek, has spoken about his client’s future to Sports Digitale. “Altay had offers from many European clubs last summer,” Seyrek explained.
“There are currently clubs that are interested, but Altay wants to stay and play in Manchester. The club definitely does not want to lose Altay.”
His remarks imply that there will be no changes in United’s goalkeeping lineup until the summer, by which time Bayindir will have two years remaining on his contract.
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton’s contract ends in June, while Onana, who was signed from Inter Milan for £47 million in 2023, has a contract running for another three and a half years.
Amorim defended Bayindir after his error-strewn performance in United’s disastrous 4-3 defeat at Tottenham, when asked if the former Fenerbahce star had apologized to his teammates in the dressing room.
“No, he doesn’t have to do that,” the United boss, who reinstalled Onana for the next Premier League game, stated.
“He has to focus. We will see the game, and we will improve every player of this team. We win together, lose together. It is not the individual; it is the team.”
As Manchester United’s challenging season continues, Amorim is already looking ahead to his first full campaign in charge next season. On Friday, he confirmed that United have activated the one-year extension clause in Harry Maguire’s contract.
At the same time, emerging talent Amad is close to finalizing a new long-term deal. Originally, both players’ contracts were due to expire in June.
