Sancho initially joined Enzo Maresca’s team last summer on a loan deal that reportedly includes a mandatory purchase clause valued between £20-25 million.
It remains uncertain whether the ex-Borussia Dortmund star will continue his spell in west London or return to Manchester United after the 2024/25 season.
However, Chelsea would reportedly have to pay a £5 million penalty if they choose not to make his move permanent.
A new report by Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst explained how United “players would have major misgivings about the remote possibility of Jadon Sancho playing for the club again as they do not believe he is good enough”.
Sancho’s character is not believed to be a problem, but senior figures in Manchester United’s squad felt he had difficulty handling the pressures of playing for the club.
This season, the winger, who has earned 23 caps for England, has featured in 29 matches for Chelsea, recording two goals and providing seven assists.
In February, United boss Ruben Amorim was asked if Sancho no longer wanted to represent the club in a press conference to which he replied: “I don’t know. I’m just focused on my players and my problems. Sancho is not my problem.”
The England international, born in Camberwell, is well accustomed to playing in Europe, having had two separate stints at Borussia Dortmund. He could find himself back on the continent next season.
According to Football Italia, Serie A rivals Roma and Lazio have expressed interest in signing Sancho. He was previously linked with a move to Juventus, though no agreement was reached.
Earlier this season, while speaking to Chelsea.com, Sancho appeared content as he shared that he had “always supported Chelsea as a kid.”
“It’s still a bit weird to me, but it’s always good to be home,” said Sancho.
“I always supported Chelsea as a kid, because of Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. And speaking to Enzo [Maresca] before I came here, he was determined to work with me. He showed me his plans of where he sees me fitting in the team, and telling me how I could help the team moving forward. That brought me here. He made me feel comfortable. I liked his energy on the Facetime call we had.”
