Man Utd target shock move for £50m Chelsea player

Manchester United are reportedly considering an unexpected bid for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell.

Last season, Erik ten Hag faced challenges due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, leading him to use various players, including Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot, Sofyan Amrabat, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, to fill in at left-back.

United are looking to bolster their defense before the new Premier League season and are already negotiating to sign Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt.

According to MailOnline, United are also interested in acquiring a new left-back, with Chilwell among their top targets.

United had previously engaged in talks to sign Marc Cucurella, but negotiations fell through due to Chelsea’s £7 million loan fee demand.

Subsequently, Ten Hag’s team signed Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham but ended his loan in January as they anticipated Shaw and Malacia’s return.

Chilwell, who was limited to nine Premier League starts last season because of injuries, joined Chelsea from Leicester City for £50 million in 2020. He also missed England’s Euro 2024 squad selection.

In other news, Luke Shaw has declared himself fit for England’s Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old made a comeback after a five-month injury absence, appearing as a substitute in England’s penalty shootout victory over Switzerland on Saturday.

‘The last four months have been really tough,’ Shaw said on Monday.

‘I think obviously, at the start I was expected to come back a lot sooner but, you know, I went through quite a few setbacks, to be honest. But I’m here now and it was really nice to get on the other night.

‘I’ve been itching to get some minutes. It’s been a long while but really pleased that I was able to get on the pitch and get some minutes, and of course, now hopefully get some more in the next game.’
