Man Utd to hijack move for France star despite Milan agreement

Youssouf Fofana has agreed a four-year deal with AC Milan but Manchester United (Man Utd) could still attempt to hijack a transfer move for the France international.

The Red Devils are eager to sign at least one new midfielder this summer having wrapped up deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

The club are in discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over a move for Manuel Ugarte, who is valued at around £58m by the Ligue 1 giants.

Man United are also considering other options to strengthen the midfield with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi another name under consideration.

But reports in France claim Manchester United are also keen on Monaco player Fofana.

AC Milan are eager to bring the 25-year-old midfielder to the San Siro and according to RMC Sport, have reached an agreement over a four-year contract.

But the Rossoneri are still yet to agree a fee with Monaco for a player who has only one year remaining on his contract.

United and another Champions League team remain interested in Fofana, according to the report, and are still weighing up a move despite that agreement with Milan.

Monaco were initially looking for a fee of around €25m for the player with Sky Italia reporting they will settle for around €18m.

The Red Devils have long-standing problems in midfield which were thrown under the spotlight again last campaign as Casemiro suffered a worrying dip in form.

The Brazil international, who has two more years left on his contract, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer but no formal offers have materialised for now.

Scott McTominay meanwhile has been the subject of huge interest from Fulham, who saw an offer turned down by United this week.

United have also declined to trigger their option to sign Sofyan Amrabat for €20m following his loan spell at the club last summer.
