The Nigerian striker is among several high-profile forwards linked with a summer transfer to Old Trafford.
Following a disappointing 2024-25 season that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League, manager Ruben Amorim has prioritized signing a new No. 9. ..Continue Reading
United struggled for goals, with neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee reaching double digits in the league, prompting interest in Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Osimhen.
Reports indicate that United are preparing a package deal to present to Napoli in their bid to land Osimhen.
The prolific forward has netted 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and played a key role in their 2022-23 Serie A triumph.
However, with Antonio Conte now in charge, Osimhen’s future at the club appears uncertain, leading to his loan move to Galatasaray last season after a failed deadline-day transfer to Chelsea.
Osimhen continued to shine in Turkey, scoring 37 goals across all competitions and helping Galatasaray secure the league title.
His performances have attracted interest from Chelsea and Arsenal, both of whom are looking to strengthen their attacking options alongside United.
Osimhen is valued at £63 million, but Manchester United, dealing with financial constraints after missing out on Champions League qualification, are eager to reduce the cost by including a player in the deal.
Reports indicate that United are considering offering Joshua Zirkzee to Napoli as part of their bid to bring Osimhen to Old Trafford.
United signed Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million last summer, but he struggled in his debut Premier League season, managing only three goals.
Although United previously turned down an approach from Inter Milan for Zirkzee, they are now open to using him as part of a potential swap for Osimhen.
Alejandro Garnacho was previously linked with a move to Napoli in January, but recent reports suggest the Serie A champions are no longer interested in signing him.
Meanwhile, Antonio Conte is looking to add a backup striker for Romelu Lukaku, which could make Zirkzee an appealing option for Napoli as they seek to offload Osimhen.
Osimhen has already rejected a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, as he remains focused on fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League. However, Al Hilal is expected to make another bid for him.
Despite this, the Nigerian forward is unlikely to reconsider his stance, prompting Al Hilal to explore alternative targets such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.
In a recent interview, John Obi Mikel, who has close ties to Osimhen, expressed support for a potential move to either Manchester United or Arsenal.
‘I hope there is still a Premier League move for him this summer’, the ex-Premier League winner said. ‘I think the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, they still need a striker.
‘I don’t think [Rasmus] Hojlund is the guy for Manchester United. He runs around and works hard but he is not the guy who will score goals, put them in the top four and win them trophies.
‘So for me Manchester United might be the destination. I don’t want to see him in Saudi right now because he still has so much to offer in Europe.
‘It would be a shame to see him go there. So maybe Arsenal, United, Juventus and PSG too [are his options]. Let’s see what happens.’
