Manchester United could be considering selling up to seven players, including one who seemed indispensable during Erik ten Hag’s tenure.
2024 has been a rollercoaster year at Old Trafford. Apart from the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City in May, there has been little for United fans to celebrate.
On Monday, Ruben Amorim watched in shock as his team conceded two goals within the first 19 minutes against Newcastle, with Alexander Isak and Joelinton scoring in a 2-0 win that moved Eddie Howe’s side up to fifth place, while United remained in 14th, just seven points above the relegation zone. ..Continue Reading
As 2025 approaches, Amorim, at 39 years old, will undoubtedly seek to improve his squad and the club’s fortunes.
In his inaugural interview as head coach, he described the job as a “real honour” but emphasized that he will “need time” to bring success to the Red Devils.
His tenure has been challenging, with six defeats in 11 matches against teams like Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves, and most recently, Newcastle.
Despite the difficult start, Amorim has shown he is not afraid to make bold decisions, such as leaving Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the 20-man matchday squad for the 2-1 win against Manchester City.
Last night, he substituted Joshua Zirkzee after just 32 minutes, surprising many inside Old Trafford.
Amorim may be forced to make significant decisions in the upcoming transfer windows.
According to Mail Plus, up to seven players could leave the club. The report states that United “would listen to offers for Rashford” and are “keen” to see Casemiro depart, while Zirkzee has been linked with a potential loan move to Juventus.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof’s contracts expire at the end of the 2024/25 season, and they are unlikely to receive new deals from the club. Additionally, Antony has been “offered” a potential exit route by Real Betis.
Surprisingly, Garnacho is also mentioned in the report and is described as “less of a natural fit” for Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation, which equally emphasizes both attacking and defensive play for wing-backs.
The report suggests that United are “still unlikely” to sell the Argentine but may be open to “offers”.
