Man Utd make approach to sign £27m Germany star ahead of Euro 2024

Manchester United are in discussions to sign Hoffenheim’s forward Maximilian Beier, as per German reports.

Manager Erik ten Hag had previously expressed the need for a new striker to support Rasmus Hojlund during the January transfer window. However, financial constraints halted any potential deal.

With the decision to retain Ten Hag, he continues to advocate for the acquisition of a forward this summer, in addition to a new centre-back and central midfielder.

Beier has had a standout first full season in the Bundesliga, netting 16 goals in 33 games for Hoffenheim. He was recently honored as the club’s Player of the Season.

The 21-year-old’s impressive form has also secured him a spot in Germany’s national team, with his participation in the Euro 2024 campaign starting against Scotland on Friday evening.

‘I played against him in my first years as Bayern’s Under-17 coach and his qualities were immediately apparent,’ legendary Germany striker Miroslav Klose said of Beier before his call-up.

‘He runs an incredible amount, works for the team and rewards himself with goals. I’m sure Julian Nagelsmann has him on his radar.’

Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier has caught the eye of Manchester United, and SportBILD, through SportWitness, reports that United have inquired about the cost of acquiring the striker.

The Bundesliga team is reportedly asking for Beier’s release clause of €32.5 million (£27.4m), which decreases by €2.5 million (£2.1m) annually.

United are expected to face financial limitations once more in this transfer window, with initial summer budget reports suggesting £35 million.

The club is optimistic about raising this amount by offloading players such as Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood, and Casemiro.
