Manchester United have explored the prospect of making a January transfer move for Serhou Guirassy, the striker from Stuttgart, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have faced a challenging beginning to the new season and suffered another setback with a recent defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League.
Simultaneously, Erik ten Hag’s team is on the brink of elimination from the Champions League group stage, intensifying the pressure on the United manager.
A notable issue for the club has been scoring goals, as they have only found the net 16 times in 14 top-flight matches.
The £72 million summer signing, Rasmus Hojlund, is yet to score in the competition, while Anthony Martial has struggled to make an impact in front of goal.
In an effort to reverse their fortunes, United is contemplating the addition of a new striker in the January transfer window.
Among the potential targets is Serhou Guirassy, who has already notched up 17 goals in 12 games across all competitions this season.
Transfer expert Romano has highlighted Guirassy’s €17.5 million release clause and has disclosed internal discussions within United regarding the possibility of signing him.
Speaking on the United Stand YouTube channel, the Italian said: “He’s [Guirassy] been discussed with Manchester United.”
“He is a big opportunity on the market, one of the biggest because he’s scored a lot of goals with Stuttgart and he is available with a release clause.
“It is not so usual to see a release clause valid in January around Europe, but in this case we can see the clause is valid in January window and is €17.5m.
“So that’s why many clubs, not just in England, but also in Germany, Italy are considering a move for him because it’s a big, big opportunity.
“He’s been discussed with Man United. There were meetings to discuss the opportunity and to explain how the release clause works.
Romano added: “Man United are thinking about the possibility to bring in a new striker in the January transfer window, so it’s not guaranteed yet. But it is one of the things they are discussing internally.
“And Guirassy is one of the names they have on the table, so it’s a possibility. But let me clarify there are multiple clubs interested in this boy.
“Stuttgart are also pushing for him to stay until the end of the season and leave in the summer. But from what I’m hearing the possibility of a January exit is really concrete.”
