One of the most sought-after young talents in Europe has sparked conversation after sharing a photo of himself wearing a Manchester United jersey—just days after the club reportedly joined the race to sign him.
It’s been a mixed summer so far for United. After finalizing a £62.5 million deal for Matheus Cunha from Wolves, many expected the club to move swiftly in the transfer market. ..Continue Reading
Earlier this month, United submitted an offer of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons for Bryan Mbeumo, but Brentford rejected it, holding out for more.
A second proposal, totaling up to £62.5 million, was also turned down, and Mbeumo has since informed Brentford that if he moves this summer, he prefers a switch to Ruben Amorim’s side.
In addition to Mbeumo, United have been linked with several attacking options, including Lyon winger Malick Fofana.
According to reports from France, United have shown interest in bringing the Belgian international to Old Trafford.
Fofana, who netted 11 goals across all competitions for Lyon last season, is expected to be among the first players to leave the club following their relegation to Ligue 2.
On Sunday, the 20-year-old added fuel to the speculation by posting a photo of himself wearing a Manchester United kit with Marcus Rashford’s name and number on the back. He was even seen in full United gear during off-season training.
Naturally, fans on social media had plenty to say about Fofana’s choice of attire, with many interpreting it as a subtle hint about his future.
One wrote: “Full United kit is insane, come here bro,” while another said: “Sign this kid up man.”
A third said: “Nah bro do you realise how big a United fan you have to be to willingly wear that MONSTROSITY of a third kit?? BRING HIM TO THE THEATRE.”
A fourth wrote: “Tears got the shorts on too,” and a fifth added: “Bring and loan back. (Helps lyon out)”
Chelsea and Liverpool are also being linked with a transfer move for Fofana as the recently-relegated Lyon face the prospect of losing a number of their best players.
