Raphael Varane is expected to miss all of Manchester United’s fixtures before the start of World Cup due to his hamstring injury, according to reports.
The Frenchman was forced off in the second half of the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Varane looked visibly upset when he left the pitch as his hopes of appearing at a third World Cup with France are now in doubt.
According to L’Equipe, Varane’s hamstring injury is not as serious as first feared after an MRI scan on Sunday but the defender is now set to be sidelined for up to three weeks.
That means Varane is likely to be absent for the club’s final six games before the World Cup in Qatar starts next month.
But, his chances of making France’s squad for the World Cup are not over and the United star is hopeful that he will still be included in Didier Deschamps’ final squad list on November 9.
France are in Group D alongside Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. Their opening group game against Australia is on November 22.
