Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has confirmed that the club have lodged a bid to sign Salzburg forward Erling Haaland.
The 19-year-old is one of the most sought-after players in Europe after an outstanding start to the 2019/20 season in which he has scored 28 goals in 22 matches across all competitions.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held private talks with Haaland in Norway last Friday and Borussia Dortmund are also in the race for the young striker.
It’s understood Haaland has a £20million release clause in his contract, but Salzburg value him at around £60m and are hoping for a bidding war.
Dortmund’s Bundesliga rivals Leipzig have also made no secret of their interest, with Julian Nagelsmann on the hunt for reinforcements in the January transfer window.
Leipzig chief Krosche revealed: ‘We have shown what we can offer him and which part he could play in our team. ‘Now it’s up to him.’
Earlier this month, Leipzig boss Nagelsmann claimed that he had held successful talks with Haaland regarding a possible move this winter.
‘I tried to explain to him in good English what my idea of football is. I think it went quite well.
‘You can say relatively little after such conversations, because they are usually very one-sided. You say a lot as a coach while the agent and the player mostly listen.
