Man United squad unhappy with Mourinho’s team selection in FA Cup final

Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Eric Bailly has left the Manchester United squad ‘bemused’ after their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

The Ivory Coast international was an unused substitute in United’s loss at Wembley and he’s started just five matches since February.

Bailly watched on as Phil Jones brought down Eden Hazard in the box and the forward stepped up to score the goal of the game.

Mourinho had claimed earlier this month that he was picking certain defenders, namely Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof – because he wanted to help them make their country’s World Cup squad.

However, the Telegraph claim the United squad are confused by Bailly’s omission in the FA Cup final and aren’t convinced by Mourinho’s claims.

Bailly was Mourinho’s first signing at the club when he signed from Villarreal for £30.7m in 2016.

The Ivorian is a popular figure with fans but his two years at the club have been surrounded by injury.

United’s defeat means they end this season trophyless and Mourinho will be under more pressure to win some silverware during his third season at the club next term.

Mourinho is set to be handed around £150m to spend in the summer transfer market and he wants to add a centre-back, a full-back and a central midfielder to his squad.
