Sadio Mane gives reason why Liverpool should not accept Chelsea’s Mason Mount demands

Sadio Mane’s transfer move to Bayern Munich explains why Liverpool should not meet Chelsea’s demands to sign Mason Mount.

Liverpool have been tipped to go through a major squad regeneration in the summer, with players like Roberto Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Milner all on the verge of leaving Merseyside.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp’s side will end the current season trophyless, having been eliminated from all three of their cup competitions.

Meanwhile, with the Reds languishing in sixth in the Premier League, some seven points adrift of a top-four spot, Klopp will look to bring in some summer recruits in a bid to transform the club’s fortunes.

Liverpool have long been linked to Jude Bellingham and Josko Gvardiol, while Mount, who is in a contract issue with Chelsea, has also been cited as a target.

The Athletic claim Mount is no closer to agreeing to a new deal at Chelsea, and the suspicion is growing that this will be his last season with the Blues.

Liverpool reportedly lead the list of domestic suitors, while former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel, now of Bayern Munich, is also credited with an interest.

But, the publication has stressed that Chelsea will demand £70m for the midfielder, even though he is entering the final year of his contract.

While the Guardian claims Mount prefers a move to Bayern, Liverpool are believed to have given proper consideration to what kind of contract they could offer to persuade him to join them.

While Mount is only 24 years old, a Champions League winner and has 36 international caps, £70million seems a sizeable fee when considering the price Bayern Munich paid to sign Mane.

The Bundesliga side paid Liverpool an initial £27.5m with another £7.5million worth of add-ons to sign Mane, who was also in the last year of his contract at the time.

While Mane was 30 when he joined Bayern, he was a key player at Liverpool, proven by the Senegal international being voted the runner-up in the 2022 Ballon d’Or, behind Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
